The City of Melbourne each year marks the anniversary of the inception of Phoenix Race Karts, so it's an event we like to perform well in. Last year was a great year for the Sager boys in particular, with Liam taking a strong victory in Rookies, and older brother Kaleb coming a close second in Junior Heavy.
Kaleb has since got a job and a licence to drive, so unfortunately we didn't see him this year as apparently he has more important things to do!! However, Liam and his old man Brad made the long trek from Moranbah again, and lucky they did too - because Liam replicated his stunning win from last year and decimated the field again - this time in Junior Light!

With his trademark flouro orange sticker hit in full flight, Liam won every race that was contested on slicks (which was only the second heat and the final thanks to Melbourne's strange understanding of the term "drought"), and his kart was a WEAPON off the dogleg corner!
Another Phoenix driver worthy of mention was Anthony Sammut, a Todd Road local who contested Clubman Light in his own kart (running top ten) and National Pro in his brother's kart. He showed exceptional speed in the J kart in particular, and lead a good portion of the final before a coming together saw him do a bit of lawnmowing at the top of the hill, and his hopes of victory were dashed. Bad luck mate, I'm sure we'll see you on the podium again soon!
