15/09/2008Junior Sprint Classic
<- PreviousNext ->

The Junior Sprint Classic has again been "run and won" and Phoenix drivers again figured prominently in the results. The feelgood story of the weekend for me was a brilliant run by Brenton Mountjoy, who came back from a long break from karting to record a strong 4th place in the feature race "Champion of Champions". Brenton and father Paul are just bloody good blokes so I was rapt to see Brenton so fast in such a classy field after a long break.

The Pucka crew had recently repaired some cracks in the track with what I will describe in my best technical tone of voice as "sticky black goo", which when combined with beautiful sunny weather resulted in a SUPER fast track. It was nuts! The Junior Clubman karts (and their were 44 of them which my mate Frankie Cesnik would have loved to see) were doing lap times usually in the realms of Leopard Light!! It was great fun setting up karts for the sticky conditions, and again we proved how well Phoenix karts perform in the grip!

The best performances from Phoenix drivers included:

  • 5th in Junior Clubman Group 2 : Brenton Mountjoy

  • Fastest Lap in the final, Junior Clubman Group 1 : Josh Burdon

  • 4th in Junior Clubman Champion of Champions : Brenton Mountjoy

  • 2nd in Junior National Pro (by just 0.017 of a second!!) : Steven MacKenzie

  • 1st in Junior National Light : Liam Sager

Yet again Liam Sager proved to be the class of the Junior National Light brigade and took another commanding victory in the class he joined at the beginning of the year. He's won the Southern City Classic, won the Winter Cup, won the All Star Series Championship, won the City of Melbourne and now the Junior Sprint! What a phenomenal year!

I haven't got any photo's yet, but Ash Budd of photowagon.com.au did say he got a photo of Liam trying to point at the Phoenix logo on the nosecone... but his arms being a wee bit short to make it!! :)

Well done guys!
