Welcome again karters, to the Phoenix Race Karts tech section.

Our third article in the series is a little more theoretical than the previous two, though it should make interesting reading, and hopefully expand your understanding of the machine beneath you.

Everything about a kart's handling is defined by the tyres, and this article explains some of the important points about tyre dynamics, and how they interact with a kart. Tyre dynamics is a complex subject, not totally understood even by tyre manufacturers, so this article is by no means comprehensive - though it does explain in basic terms how tyres work, and interact with your chassis' "suspension".
